East Vancouver Traffic Calming To Be Reevaluated
It's a debate of more than street signs. It's instead a matter of community - with East Vancouver residents growing frustrated by the endless reroutes and redirections. Everyday commutes transform into challenges, and navigating the chaos demands a patience few drivers can spare. Change is needed.

It may be on its way.

A recent Vancouver Sun report has brought renewed attention to dissatisfaction over traffic calming barriers in Hastings-Sunrise. Residents told the newspaper that road closures and restrictions are making everyday travel more complicated - eliminating parking, removing accessibility, and diverting vehicles into back lanes that were not intended to accommodate them. These measures were meant to provide a safe environment, but they have brought only confusion; and drivers have become weary of battling barricades.

Those barricades may be removed in 2027.  According to the report, the City plans to collect speed and traffic-volume data later this year, wising to examine whether the traffic calming attempts have delivered their intended results. If the data does not prove favorable, adjustments are to be considered for early 2027 - with the possibility that certain barricades and diverters may be removed entirely.

For East Vancouver residents, this provides an opportunity to reclaim our community. It's crucial, therefore, to continue pushing forward. Sustained, constructive participation will keep accessibility, neighbourhood safety, and local concerns at the forefront of the City's evaluation - and it will help to improve the chance of positive change.

Keep rallying, Vancouver.
