East Vancouver residents have an opportunity to see their neighbourhood’s traffic calming debate play out on the evening news - where cameras were able to record every unnecessary turn and frustrating reroute.
On September 21 CityNews Vancouver launched an investigation into the latest transportation policies. Calm or Chaos? led viewers into Hastings-Sunrise, where residents discussed the concrete barriers, road diversions, and other changes affecting local streets. Our own Tom Siracusa served as guide, explaining the confusion these measures have wrought - and calling for change.
That call is being answered. Nearly 3,000 East Vancouver residents have signed our petition to remove the barricades - and CityNews reported that the community feedback has been received. Policymakers are considering adjusting installments in early 2027 and route corrections are possible.
This is welcome news - but we must not grow complacent. Continue to push back against traffic calming, sharing stories, experiences, and opinions. Ensure that City Hall understands that their measures have not helped our community. They've only left us frustrated.
